Located offshore of Resta, near the Galean border, the island of Iris is home to the Bishop’s Pinnacle, one of Comalan’s sacred sites. The small population of the island largely consists of the students of the Theia Seminary and those cloistered at a nearby monastery of the same name, in addition to a small contingent of scientists from nearby Galeon. Despite officially being part of Resta, many consider the isle's culture to be far more Galean in nature.
Geography
Iris is known for its idyllic, overgrown landscape. The island is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, and is known for hosting one of Comalan’s most stunning populations of songbirds. These traits are what draw a number of Galean zoologists and botanists to the island for research purposes.
Iris is also known for its winding stretches of white, sandy beach. At the west side of the island is Bishop’s Bay, a small, calm body of water that many of the island’s residents use for recreational purposes.
Theia Seminary
The Theia Seminary was founded a century ago by its namesake, a Galean priestess and philosopher by the name of Aoide Theia. Theia was known for her writings on religion and society in particular, and is well known and revered by Serene clerics in Galeon, who see her philosophy as a perfect melding of Intalan and Serene ideals. Theia and her followers founded the Seminary in an effort to educate young clerics in the teachings of Serenity, with an added emphasis on intellectual rigor and rationality, as well as social responsibility and equality.
Today, the Seminary continues to be run in the Theian tradition by a small number of clerics — most famously, of late, including the parents of the Avatar of Salica, Helia and Isra Astersong. The avatar himself, Atunis Astersong, spent most of his life in the seminary before leaving for mainland Resta.
The nearby monastery is home to Theian clerics, as well as any others who seek to study its large collection of artifacts, scrolls, and tomes of both Galean and Restan origin.
The Bishop’s Pinnacle
Nestled in the northeastern corner of the island, the Bishop’s Pinnacle is a sacred site in which the voices of the Gods can be clearly heard. This unique quality makes this mountain an occasional pilgrimage destination for acolytes of the clergy who struggle to connect with the gods. An overgrown forest surrounds the mountain, forming a ring of treeless grassland at its pinnacle. While a small marble altar at the highest point is the ideal place for spiritual training, travelers who get lost can commune with the gods by praying before its largest trees. Mages frequently teleport to the mountaintop to provide quick transportation to the bottom of the mountain for some coin.
