Sun in the Sky

Sun in the Sky is a popular song in Restan culture, even though its writer died anonymous. It was written to provide hope against tragedy and crucial lessons against the sometimes innocuous choices that lead to death. This is done through four individual stories of people who failed without the ethics provided by the Doctrines of Tranquility, Power, Knowledge, and Storms in that order. The song is meant to be accompanied by a plucked string instrument, but since I have no such thing, I recorded a vocal-only version of the song. Lyrics are also enclosed below, because why wouldn't they be?

She leaned by a tree on a hilltop
Lazing without a care in the world
Nothing bad can go down, in this quiet little town
She slept until tragedy unfurled

A traveler crawled toward the village
Nearby the hill where she lied
He tried to cry out, but he couldn’t shout
As the gentle sun glows in the sky

[pause]

He glared at his foe ‘cross the river
Licking the blood from his blade
His blood ran cold, he no longer felt bold
When he heard what his enemy said:

“Run away little whelp, I will end you
I’ll savor your blood when you die!”
But there’s no turning back! It’s time to attack!
As the blazing sun glares in the sky

Why, why, would you cry?
With this glorious sun in the sky
On the grass may you lie, so wipe your eyes ‘til they’re dry
Because there’s a beautiful sun in the sky

They stayed all night long in the valley
Where the snakes and the ridgewolves roam
‘Twas not the right path for avoiding nature’s wrath
But they had one day farther ‘til home

Their escorts had left them by morning
They left in a chorus of sighs
“Your plan isn’t great, so we leave you to your fate”
As the knowing sun sits in the sky

[pause]

She stared at the bars of her prison
Wondering what she could have done
She tried so hard to see why she wasn’t free
It wasn’t like she hurt anyone

Her life was emptiness and torture
She couldn’t escape however she tried
She let go of her fight, stopped fleeing from the light
As the happy sun glints in the sky

Why, why, would I lie?
There’s a glorious sun in the sky!
With the gods may you fly, so wipe your eyes until they’re the dry
Because there’s a beautiful sun in the sky
